Basketball Game

Logen did not want me to write about the game on Monday...so that gives you a general idea that it did not go well. But we were proud that he played well and put (2) of the his team's eight points on the score board.

What is so Funny??

Yes, we shop at Costco and buy in bulk, which is usually a good thing unless Colin finds the big box of baby wipes!

Colin thinks it is hilarious that he was able to open ALL the packages of baby wipes and pull several dozen of them out before I caught him in the act.

Who can get upset with a face like that??!!?? Not me.....I just laughed right along with him....oh, and ran to get the camera!

Opportunities

Tyler is doing such a great job of networking, getting his name out to other people in his industry and taking every opportunity he can to showcase his talent as a recording engineer/producer.

A few weeks ago he was asked by one of his clients to help on a recording session at another studio. It was an after-hours "gig" and he jumped at the chance. While he was at the studio he met the owner of the studio, and had the opportunity to work side by side with him. All I can say is that Tyler must have made an impression on him because he called yesterday and offered him to work another session today. Of course, he said yes! All these opportunities will help tremendously in his career growth.

This picture is of Tyler in his office at the studio (Studio Center, Las Vegas). He loves his job...what a great thing to wake up each morning and love the job you are going to!!

Final Score: Explorers 33 - Chiefs 22

Well the first game has come and gone and as you can see by the headline, Logen's Meridian Middle School Chiefs lost their first game.

I am sad to say that we missed the first half of the game and missed Logen (wearing #17 jersey) putting the first point on the scoreboard. We had never been to this particular middle school before, so we found the gym first thing and went in and sat down. The "B" team started playing and we just figured they were running behind and Logen's team would be playing next. At half time we let Colin run around the court and when Dennis went chasing him, he noticed a door leading to ANOTHER gym, he looked through the window and there was Logen's team playing...so hence we missed the first half of his game.

We watched the second half of Logen's game and watched him score again. It was pretty exciting! He was bummed that their team did not win but they did play a great competitive game.

Next game: Monday, January 26th.

Basketball Rules = Handsome Young Man

One of the rules on Logen's Basketball team is that on game day all the boys on the team have to wear dress shirts and ties to school.

This picture was taken before Logen went to school this morning...what a handsome young man. This is his first tie wearing experience....and he wears it well!

His basketball game is early this evening, he was pretty excited and nervous about the game. We will all be there to cheer him on (Ryan, Colin, Mom, Dennis & Me!).
I will post the score tonight with hopefully some pictures of the basketball court action.

I desperately need some natural Vitamin D

We live in B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L Meridian, Idaho and most days its great that we live in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains but in the winter, unfortunately we are known for what is called an inversion. This simply means that the fog gets stuck here in the valley and we have to wait for low pressure to move it out of here. This is what the skies have looked like for at least two weeks now:Yesterday we headed north to the mountains in search of some sunshine. We drove about 35 miles to the small town of Idaho City (pop.435). It was cold, only about 26 degrees, but there were BLUE skies!Driving south, back to the grey skies of Boise, with sun glasses on (I had to wipe the dust from them because they had not been worn in so long) with the sun beating in through the truck windshield, I had a smile on my face the whole trip, soaking in as much of the vitamin D sunshine that I could.

Lets hope the weather man is correct and we can see our own blue skies right out the front window by Wednesday or Thursday.

Family

I just received this picture from Mom, so I thought I would post it. The picture was taken at Christmas...we are missing Tyler.

Lo-Lo and the YO-YO

First of all let me explain the Lo-Lo: This is the name that Colin calls Logen!

Now on to the yo-yo: Meridian Parks and Recreation offered a FREE (yes, I said free) yo-yo instruction class that started last fall. The class is taught by Dave, a local yo-yo World Champion! It is an hour long on Thursday evenings.

Who would have thought there were so many different kinds of yo-yos!?! I was thinking buy him a "Duncan" yo-yo and all would be good; not true he now has a regular duncan yo-yo, a diablo yo-yo, a spin top yo-yo and an off-string yo-yo. He has learned to use all the yo-yos and several tricks: walk the dog, rock the baby, brain twister and the sky-rocket.

Logen was also invited by his instructor to join him at a demonstration at a local store a few weeks ago (he earned a $50 gift card for doing it) and then last weekend he did a demonstration at the Discovery Center (a kid's museum) in Boise.

Logen has really enjoyed learning the yo-yo and teaching other people at these demonstrations. A few weeks ago we were at the Olive Garden and Logen had a yo-yo with him. Next thing we know he is entertaining a table of women waiting for their dinner.

This picture is of Logen using his "spin top yo-yo"!

Let the basketball games begin.......

The basketball season has begun at Logen's school: Meridian Middle School. Logen is on the team and his first game against another middle school in our district is in two weeks. His position on the Meridian Middle School Chiefs is guard.

I am not sure if he wants me to share the fact that he was EXTREMELY sore after the first practice on Monday. It is now Wednesday and he is feeling a lot better!

Not sure if everyone knows but Logen is our sports nut. Ask him stats, player or team questions when it comes to the NFL or our local college football team and he knows the answer. If Dennis and Logen are debating on an answer, I will side with Logen, he knows his stuff! Logen says that he would love to be a sports analyst when he grows up.

Not only is Logen interested in sports he has a hobby that he has been involved in for a year now....Sport Stacking......see it is also a "sport". The best way to describe it, as stated by Wikipedia is: "Participants of sport stacking stack cups in predetermined sequences, competing against the clock or another player. Sequences are usually pyramids of three, six, or ten cups. Proponents of the sport say participants learn teamwork, cooperation, ambidexterity and hand-eye coordination."

Logen has posted a few videos of him sport stacking on You Tube and even one of Colin sport stacking. You can view one of his videos through this link (you may have to copy and paste the link in your address bar of your browser).

Tyler and his Guitars

I have faced reality: Tyler is not going to have children, he is going to keep having guitars instead. Who would have thought, after being born to a mother that is "tone deaf", (Oh, its true, just ask anyone who has heard me sing) that he would be such a musician.

This "baby" is an Ibanez Acoustic/Electric. His newest addition is made out of walnut, has a built in tuner, 22 frets and he is madly in love with it. This guitar joins her siblings: (2) Ibanez electrics, Fender electric, Epiphone electric, Dean acoustic and Gretsch acoustic. What a great family!

Its amazing that Tyler taught himself to play guitar. He has taken an occasional lesson but mostly he did all the work with much practice.

Have I told you lately how proud I am of the man he has turned out to be??.....we are blessed!
We are still digging out of the snow here in the Valley. I know that for my family that lives in Maine, I have nothing to complain about with only 3 inches of snow on the ground.....but when you are looking forward to spring as much as I am....it is a little depressing! For my family that lives in the warmer climates......I AM SOOOOO JEALOUS!!!!!

Logen is back to school this week. We are on the downhill side of 8th grade. In a month or two it will be time to put in his application for the charter high school. The charter schools accept kids on a lottery basis. Which means you apply, and if they pull your name out of the hat you get to go. We had such a great experience (smaller class size, more personal experience with the teachers) with Tyler attending the Technical Charter School that we are hoping that Logen is blessed enough to "win" a spot.

What a difference a week makes.......

Wishful thinking on my part that maybe the snow was finished and spring could possibly be right around the corner:

This picture was taken last Monday, December 29th. Notice Colin is just wearing a sweat outfit with no jacket. The temperatures were in the high 50's.

This picture was taken this morning.

Need I say more..........

Blogging

I am starting this blog as a way to keep in touch and share the family news with my friends and family that live in different parts of the country. Over the years I have tried numerous ways to keep in touch i.e..monthly newsletters (that never lasted for more than a month), generic emails (so impersonal), etc. As my family knows I have not done too good of a job keeping in touch.

So as I start this new adventure called blogging...no promises...of daily entries or perfect grammar, but..........

I will do my best.......
