Our doctor, Dr. Shea, decided not to use the splint that Logen's pediatrician had put on him. He said he does not like to use splints because it causes the joint to become stiff and could lead to Logen needing physical therapy on it. So he "buddy wrapped" his finger, which means he wraps the broken finger with the finger next to it. It allows more flexibility.
Logen was hoping to go dirt bike riding this weekend during our camping trip but the doctor prefers that he does not do that......and I prefer it that way too! (Finally someone on MY side) :)
While we were at the doctors office they ordered a follow-up x-ray on his arm that Dr. Shea literally put back together in 2005. This is what it looked like back in 2005:
Today it looks similar with the plate and eight screws shining bright through the x-ray! Obviously the long pin sticking out through the skin was removed via surgery a month or so after the original surgery in 2005. The HUGE difference is that the doctor is mighty impressed with how well it has completely healed. Logen has lost a slight range of motion but considering how traumatic the fracture was he is very fortunate!
Dr. Shea had not seen Logen in two years so he was happy to see him and get updates. But he did tell him that he was not allowed to break any more bones! ;o) He said it should take 3-4 weeks for the finger to heal and that we did not have to go back to see him unless there were any problems with it.
If anyone is taking count, Logen has broken five bones in his 14 years!
