She would have been 46 today......I miss her each and every day. There are so many things I wish I could share with her, talk to her about and get her advice on. How wonderful it would be to give her one more hug......... I am at peace knowing that she knew how much I loved her and looked up to her.
I wish we were spending your birthday together. I believe someday we will, again!
We went to Dennis' Uncle Lynn's birthday party last night. He is now a very young 60 years old. In the spirit of turning 60, everyone was asked to dress like people did in the 1960's. Dennis had a great idea for us to dress like Darin and Samantha Stevens from the TV series 'Bewitched'. It was a great idea but I definitely do not have time to shop for a suit and dress. Plus, I have never mastered how to twinkle my nose they way she did! :) So we went hippie style...which seemed to fit in with what everyone else was wearing!
Here are the hippie boys, Logen and Colin, before we left for the party.
When we got there there was quite the party going on. The food table was about 12 feet long with all kinds of goodies.
Here is the birthday man himself, Uncle Lynn (on the left) with his nephew Terry looking like some true hippies. Uncle Lynn may have had some experience with this look, it looks natural on him.
There was a DJ "spinning" some songs, 60's style. The DJ was such a nice guy. Colin made his way over to where he was working and when I went to get him, the DJ told me not to worry about it. He taught Colin how to spin the turntable. By the end of the night I felt like I owed him a great big tip for being so nice and patient with Colin.
Dennis and I tried our hand at the hippie look also.
Logen and his cousin, Kandace (Uncle Lynn's daughter), had a great time hanging out together. They both make great hippies!
By the time it got dark everyone was in a dancing mood, well almost everyone. Colin was a hit with the ladies and had all of them dancing with him. Logen was out on the dance floor having a great time and even taught a few people the "moonwalk". Logen wearing the wig and Colin dancing with his new friend!
Someone had the great idea NOT to try to put 60 candles on the cake....the fire department would have had to been called for sure! ;o)
The party was great fun. We saw lots of family and a few friends that we had not seen in quite awhile.
This is what happens when you forget to close the laptop and you have a two year old in the house!
Fixing this is not just snapping keys back on. There are small intricate, puzzle piece type parts under those keys.......ohhh my goodness.
I thought for sure I would be taking this in to the computer specialist to fix it. In comes Dennis and with a little patience and peace and quiet (which secretly means ME not putting my two-cents in) he put the computer back together again!!!
Even though I do not see and visit with my Uncle Steve (and Aunt Jo-Ann) very often, because they live on the east coast, I hope they know that I think the world of them. I am very fortunate and blessed to have such wonderful relatives like my Uncle. He is smart, creative, has a great sense of humor and is fun to be around.
Hope your birthday is wonderful and let this be a special reminder that all the year through, warm thoughts and best wishes are always with you.
Tyler and the band are playing the Aruba Punk Fest tonight.....I hope your not thinking Aruba, the island. He is playing at the Aruba hotel in downtown Las Vegas.
This is a pretty exciting gig that brings lots of punk music fans together. They will be taking the stage at 9pm.
The band has been putting together some merchandising to hand out to the fans at tonight's show. Its is a great way to market their name even more. The headliner picture on this post shows what the bumper stickers look like. They also have had pins made that are similar to the picture below:The band has had some pretty exciting turn of events in recent weeks. When I get more precise details I will share with you all......don't worry Tyler is not quitting his day job! ;o)
Our plans are still set to go see Tyler at the end of September and see his show that they have scheduled for the night of October 2nd.
School registration was yesterday. I was worried about the long lines so we got to the school in the morning. What a breeze....no long lines....it was almost painless, except for writing the check! Grand total to enroll Logen in high school was $157 dollars plus $20 on his food account so he can eat school lunches for a week or so!
The breakdown:
Yearbook = $60 Class Fees = $12 Activity Card = $35 School Pictures = $25 School Gear (t-shirt, hat & water bottle) = $25
I guess this is where I should say, "high school education = PRICELESS!"
I am so excited for Logen. I know this is going to be the beginning of four fabulous years! And we all know how quickly those four years go by.
Other exciting news was that Logen got a top locker. The lockers are not full lockers--just half--so it always a BIG deal to get the top locker with the easier access, etc.
He also signed up to go to some informational meeting regarding the Lacrosse team. He thinks he may like to play but wants to find out more about it. Lacrosse is a spring sport and practices will start about the same time the basketball season is ending. He plans on playing on the basketball team.
We do have some changes to do to his schedule which we will work on next week with the school staff.
Also right around the corner is the Homecoming Dance. Logen has a date and we are so excited for him to go to his first high school dance. When I say "we" I guess that mainly means myself and his girlfriends mother. We are collaborating on colors and flowers.....that is way too much planning for Logen.
Other great news for Logen is that he was asked to assistant coach a flag football team. The kids are in the 10-year old age group. My east coast relatives will love the team name: The Patriots! They practice twice a week and will have about seven games. Logen is enjoying himself......he loves football and is great with the kids.
Logen and his cousin, Conor, had a great time camping out in the tent for several nights!
Kyle had a blast pushing Colin around in the dump truck. Colin is actually using sign language to say "more" to Kyle. Colin and Dennis' cousin's wife, Vicki. Everyone thought he looked cute with his ball cap on backwards. One of the dogs in our group scared this poor cat up the tree. I thought it was cute how it was perched on this sign. There was a hot spring creek that ran through the camp site. Colin LOVED playing in it.
Logen playing around with his cousins.
We had family group pictures. This is our group representing Dennis' dad's side of the family. We have a new baby in the family. Tyler is three months old. Here is with his great grand-parents: Darel & Bonnie (Dennis' aunt and uncle). The crowd for our family auction. Family members bring items to auction off to raise money for the next years reunion. This is what the face looks like when we do not allow Colin to have whatever he wants--like the WHOLE bag of peanut m & m's.
More glasses for Colin to wear.
The auctioneers: Dennis and his brother in law, Steve.
Dennis' cousin Paula and her husband, Steve
This is what the family reunion is about for me. Getting together with family; relaxing, talking and catching up on what is happening with everyone........we always enjoy ourselves!
The hot spring pool is the most anticipated amenity at the family reunion campsite. It is a very large pool with two diving boards, a water slide and life guards ;o)- The water is a very comfortable (approx.) 85 degrees, which was very refreshing in the cooler weather that we contended with this time.
Logen spends A LOT of time in the pool, swimming with his cousins. They have a blast!
Colin had a great time in the pool, too. He loves the water. Dennis took him down the slide several times.
Here they are at the top of the slide waiting for their turn. Here they come! If you do not sit on the mat that they provide you will go down the slide incredibly slow. Which was the perfect speed for Colin....and Dennis too, since he needed to keep a safe hold on Colin as they "plunged" into the pool. I say "plunge" sarcastically--as you can see in this picture--they are not even close to "plunging" into the pool.
And Logen's favorite activity...the high dive....about 8 feet high.
He loves the high dive and he is very good at it. These pictures show him attempting to do a double front flip. Again I have to say, he does not get this talent from me!
Someone came up with the great idea to have a family tie dye project at this years family reunion. We all brought our own white t-shirts. Dennis' sister, Trish, in the picture above, is very crafty. So she had the idea to write her family member name and the reunion name on each of the t-shirts in permanent marker. They had five (out of their eight) children at the reunion and she figured it would be a good way to know who's shirt belonged to who. Well it was such a great idea that EVERYONE brought her their t-shirts so she could do the same for them. She had every color of the rainbow in sharpie markers to choose from. She did a fantastic job: freehand, the letters all in a straight line and super cute! She is talented!
On Saturday everyone took the time to tie up the shirts, put the dye on them and then they had to sit over night in ziplock bags. We rinsed them out on Sunday morning and hung them to dry in the sunshine-----finally some sunshine! YEAH! And this is what we had:
Logen did a great job with his shirt!
We have some creative people in the family...look at all the colors!!!
