Tonight is THE NIGHT

Tyler's band, Nothing with Numbers, is playing their first show tonight in Las Vegas. This is a (small) copy of the flyer that has been circulating the streets to promote the show.

Apparently there is a party for two other bands also at The Bunkhouse tonight. They are pretty well known in their genre of music...so there should be a good size crowd. Tyler has promised me pictures from tonight to add to the blog.

I want to remind everyone that this is the band where Tyler plays the bass. He hasn't played the bass for very long but apparently you could not tell with the great skills he has.

So if anyone is in Vegas tonight--this is the place to be. If you are not in Vegas, lets give Tyler and the rest of the guys in the band a big shout out and good vibes for their show tonight!

HAPPY 24th BIRTHDAY TYLER !

Happy Birthday to my son Tyler, who is independent, successful, smart and all the other things that mean you won't be moving back home!

No---seriously Tyler--Having you as my son is one of the nicest gifts life ever gave me. I'm so proud of you, and when I think of you, it's with all the love a mom's heart can hold.

Tyler you bring us pride in the kind of person you have always been and in the wonderful man you have become.

We love you.....Happy Birthday from your family!!!

Look at that blond hair you had (you are 2 years old in that picture) and that yellow t-shirt you are wearing was your absolute favorite, its says SUPER KID. What a prediction that was--you were and still are a SUPER KID!

Yard Work

The week after Easter the weather cooperated enough to get outside and get the patio furniture set up and enjoy some yard work. It is amazing when the weather first turns nice and I can finally get outside to start the yard work how much I enjoy it. I have to admit that by the end of summer I am tired of it! Right now I am still at the "having fun" stage!

Dennis and Colin raked the flower bed up and got it ready for planting the geraniums. The planting is still a couple weeks off but it is ready to go. What a big help Colin was to his Dad. We also went to the Home Depot because they were having a sale on the vegetable starter plants: Buy one, get one free. Can't beat that deal! So I bought (2) tomato plants, a zucchini, red pepper and yellow squash. They did not have everything I wanted so I will have to start a couple things by seed. I also bought some herb seeds to put in a container on the patio. Right now I am just babying the starter plants and bringing them in a night because it has been cold.

It is so nice to have the patio furniture set up and spend time outside. Unfortunately that time was short lived; for the past week the weather hasn't been as nice as I like it. I am so glad that May will be here on Friday--nice weather must come with the first day of May...shouldn't it....isn't it a rule some where?????

We have our first camping trip of the season planned for the weekend of May 8th. I am looking forward to it...everyone cross there fingers that the weather will be warm enough for us!

~ Break ~ Hiatus ~ Small Interruption ~

I can say that I really have missed blogging the last two weeks. To explain the:

Break, Hiatus and Small Interruption

I had a few things on my desk that absolutely needed to get done; taxes, paperwork, etc. I had been enjoying blogging so much that I just let a few of these things pile up. I decided that I had better self-impose a "threat": NO more blogging until a few things were absolutely done.

So I took charge and accomplished a bunch of stuff. Even though there is still plenty to do, I feel great that I was able to finish up on a few projects.

I was looking at the pictures on my camera to post something with this note but realized since I was not blogging I was not taking too many pictures either! I found this one from Easter that actually has a cute story behind it:
I call this little car Colin's "'Flintstones automobile" because it is powered by his feet! He was playing in this and I was standing there talking to him. Every time I would say something to him he would open the door on the car to respond to me...like I could not hear him unless he opened the door--it was hysterical.....Colin is hysterical!

Family Dinner and Easter Egg Hunt

Our Easter was really nice. Simple but nice.

Our day started out with an Easter basket for Colin. The Easter bunny was good to him...he got a new movie, two more Car movie cars to add to his collection and a peanut butter cup. The Easter bunny decided that Logen was a little too old (he is almost 14 now) for a basket this year but he had something up his sleeve in the backyard for later in the day.

Dennis and I made a family dinner. We did not do the traditional ham dinner, we decided to make a roast instead. At the last minute I decided to change the recipe up for the baby carrots. I was just going to steam them but I remembered that we had glazed baby carrots at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant before and they were really good. So I searched the internet and found a simple recipe that I had all the ingredients for....and they turned out really good. It was nice that we could all get together on this special day. The weather really cooperated with us...it was so beautiful outside.....that is where we spent our time most of the day. The weather is still a little unpredictable so I have not set out all the patio furniture.

Logen had to hunt the backyard for the "golden" egg! He had a heck of a time finding it--but once he did he liked what he found in it.
After dinner it was time for Colin's Easter egg hunt. He did a really good job finding the eggs, but he wanted to open each egg after he found it. Most had chocolate in it but there were a few that had pennies in it. He likes pennies not silver money and thankfully not paper money.....yet! :) Every time he found an egg with pennies in it he had to hold the pennies in his hand along with the Easter basket. Let me tell you, twelve cents later, he had his hands mighty full!!!

We are thankful for our many blessings this year!

TIME OUT!!

This is Colin's time out spot on our couch. It is not very often that Colin has to go to time out but it does happen. On this day he was in time out because he decided that it would be a good idea to climb into the dresser drawers. It is a low dresser and weighted down so I know it would never fall over BUT it is still not a safe thing to do.

The only other thing that he has been struggling with lately is in regard to our cat. Colin has been working on being nice to the cat. Our cat is EXTREMELY tolerant of Colin but she still does get sick of him after awhile! :) Today when the cat got sick of him she decided to scratch his face--not a bad scratch but enough that the cat went into time out and not Colin that time.

Colin's timeout last two minutes and because he cannot say the word "sorry", he gives "sorry" hugs! Colin gives the best hugs---no matter what kind they are!

You can tell from this picture that he is not too troubled by being in time out.....but it really works for him....he understands the concept.

Time for a little basketball playing today

Logen has really spent a lot of time with the basketball since the first of the year. He had his basketball season at school. After that he went right into the manager position of the 7th grade basketball team at his school. When we attended the parent/teacher conferences at school last week we spoke to the basketball coach and he had wonderful things to say about Logen and the way he was handling his duties of manager of the team. He said that he was a great help and a self-starter who needed no direction out on the court. He knows exactly what to do to help and to accomplish all the tasks that need to be done!

Yesterday Logen bought himself a new basketball with some money he had been saving so the boys in the neighborhood came over and they had a small game going on.

Today Dennis got out there and shot some hoops around with Logen. Of course, Colin could not be left out of the action as the following picture shows:Some day he will be big enough to shoot the ball in the hoop all by himself!! :)

We borrowed the neighbor's driveway and their basketball hoop since they did not have any cars parked in the driveway. We have great neighbors....most of us built our homes around the same time so we have been neighbors for 11 years!

Gardener for Hire!

On Tuesday the thermometer showed that the temperature got up to 76 degrees. Colin wore his shorts for the first time this year, got his pail and shovel and headed out to the flower beds. He had a blast playing in the dirt for quite a while!

He even had to peel the sandals off his feet. The shorts he is wearing are a green camouflage material-- which you can't even tell from this picture....the color just looks like.......well......dirt!?!

I just thought if he really enjoyed being in the dirt digging around he could be a big help to all the gardeners in the family....what do you think Aunt Jo-Ann, do you need some help this season? I know he will be helping me! :)

Weekends.......

The weekends come and go so quickly that I am not sure if I have taken time to enjoy them lately!

Last weekend it was nice enough to mow the lawn on Saturday and for Dennis and Logen to go dirt bike riding on Sunday. The wind has been blowing quite a bit, so I decided not to join the boys out at the desert. I knew the wind would really be blowing out there! Apparently the weather did not keep many people away as this picture shows: Dennis said there were a lot of campers out there too. Dennis and Logen rode around this big expanse of desert land for a couple hours. I am sure glad they were able to get out and have some fun together. I am so anxious to camp this year BUT I do not want to be cold either. Me and cold weather do not seem to mix too well. I have to admit that camping these last two years with our travel trailer is so enjoyable....a lot has to be said about having a full bathroom and sleeping in an actual bed when you are out in the middle of no where.

As I look back at my postings, I see that I do complain about the weather A LOT! I was thinking that wasn't a good thing, but then I decided if that is the only thing I am complaining about, its not too bad! :) The forsythia in the back yard is in full bloom (and so are the weeds!).

Colin spent some time outside in the back yard this weekend too. He just loves being outside. I took him with me in the camp trailer this weekend to get things cleaned up, start preparing and stocking it for our first camping trip in four weeks. He loved being in the trailer. I am suspecting he will be a blast to take camping with us this year.

Here he is pointing at the trailer wanting to go back in to play. But it was too nice to be inside a camp trailer, so we played outside instead. He is pretty good at riding his "rocket" down the sidewalk.
Logen enjoyed the sunshine and brought his speed stacking cups outside, and when the speed stacking cups go outside so does the noise. It is actually kind of noisy when he stacks the cups with "lightening speed"! Logen did an excellent job on his PACE project that I talked about a couple weeks ago. When we went to parent/teacher conferences last week, his English teacher said he was a natural and one of the best students that gave the oral presentation in front of the judges. Isn't that awesome?? I think I already wrote that his report was about his career choice; a sports caster. Sports is a subject that Logen can discuss very comfortably!

Logen decided that he did not want to go to the Charter High School that Tyler went to. I was a little disappointed but we support his decision. After he went to the open house he decided that it would not be a good fit for him. We applied to another charter school here in Meridian, we should know if he was chosen from the lottery by the end of the month. I will let everyone know when we hear something back from them.

Glasses!

I think Colin likes wearing glasses. He found these silly glasses to wear the other day and yesterday at mom's house, he found her glasses and wanted to wear them too!

I just think this picture is hysterical!!! If you are ever having a bad day, just look at this picture and I think it will be the cure to put a smile on your face.

He is just a silly kid!!

Do March Showers bring April Flowers??? I hope!

I do not think I could handle the way the quote really goes--no April showers PLEASE. I have had enough! It has been rainy, windy and cold for the past several days. This is what the Boise forecast looks like for the next seven days. I sure hope the weatherman is right....I need some nice weather NOW! :)

Nothing with Numbers

I wanted to share the explanation on why Tyler had to change the date he was coming home. The news was so exciting for him and for us--we support him on everything, so we were right in there with him with a great big: YAHOO!!!!

A few weeks ago I wrote about the band that Tyler plays bass for. The band's name is Nothing with Numbers. If anyone is wondering, they play punk rock music. Well they have just got hired for their very first "gig". They are playing at a club in Las Vegas called the Bunk House, on April 30th. We are so excited for him.

Tyler has not only been playing the bass he also has been recording for the band. It's important that they had a demo to send to the clubs when looking to get booked for the gigs. The band has a web page and they say this about Tyler: "Recently, bass amps started getting used at practice thanks to Tyler, who has brought a lot to our music...". All the guys in the band seem really great from the stories Tyler tells me. I wish them all the best on April 30th.

Okay maybe everyone knows this, but I didn't, so I thought I would share it. Do you realize that they record all the vocals and each instrument separately? After that, he takes it all individually and mixes it together for the "track". Sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it?

This is a picture of Tyler doing some recording for the band last weekend. Maybe I am a little over the top proud but it is exciting news. Hopefully the gigs will keep getting scheduled. Even though I do not LOVE that genre of music I would definitely LOVE to see Tyler perform someday.
