Its starting to look a lot like Christmas....

I cannot remember, honestly, the last time I have decorated this early for Christmas. I usually put the tree up two weeks before Christmas and by that time I do not go to a whole lot of trouble decorating the rest of the house because everything comes down the day after Christmas anyway.

This year Dennis started by decorating the yard. He pulled all the Christmas boxes out of the shed and stacked them on the back patio.....I think it drove me crazy to look at them out there so I decided to start unpacking them. We took our time and did a little here and there and three days later the tree is up, fireplace is decorated, centerpiece on the dining room table, small tree with the nativity scene in the family room and we even added a few decorating touches on some of the tables in the living room. Wow...I really surprised myself.

It looks really nice and festive in the house.....

I can say this is the first year in a lot of years that I have been truly excited for the holidays.....things have changed so much since Sandy passed away; my family has felt so incomplete without her. She was a blast at Christmas......always the kid at heart!

I keep all my Christmas cards from years passed and yes it is a great big pile.....but I enjoy the memories of looking through each and every one of them every holiday, even though it can be emotional. Cards from both of my grandparents, then just with my grandmothers name...now they are both gone. Several cards from my Dad and Mary..she passed away so many years ago now too. My sister ALWAYS had something insightful, thoughtful, funny and spiritual to write in her cards. We could always count on Dennis' dad to send us the sentimental cards, which we sure miss getting from him. Both of Dennis grandmothers always remembered us and sent us cards at Christmas time. So many memories in that stack of Christmas cards......and I cannot seem to part with them. So they will go back in the box after the holiday until next year......
