Continued....

swollen finger and knuckle on the left (this picture is a bad angle)

Well, it is official: Logen broke his finger. That is what I get for thinking it wasn't broken! When I woke him up this morning I could tell it was still incredibly swollen...so it was off to the pediatricians. Waiting for the doctor.

Logen's regular doctor, Dr Hanks, was out today so we saw another doctor on staff, Dr Lanuza. Dr Lanuza is so nice. We had actually seen her another time when Logen was sick with strep throat. She said she remembered us; it must be because last time she saw Logen she stuck the stick on his tongue to look at his throat and it made him throw up! YUCK!

The doctor checked out the finger and was concerned enough that she sent us to the hospital, St. Lukes, to have an x-ray. The doctor told us that if the finger was dislocated we would have to go see Logen's orthopedic doctor but if it was fractured (clean cut) she would be able to set it for us.

Off we were to the hospital!

Thankfully we did not wait too long for the x-ray but then we had to wait at the hospital for the doctor to call us with the results. The doctor called us and said that it was broken between the finger joint and the knuckle. She said she consulted our orthopedic doctor and she was going to splint the finger but he wanted to see Logen in a week for a follow up to see how it was healing. So off we were, again, back to the doctors office to have the finger splint put on.

The doctor splinted Logen's finger and told him she would rather us wrap his hand in plastic for shower times instead of taking the splint off. It will heal better if we keep it splinted at all times! Dr. Lanuza did a great job taking care of Logen.

On Monday, the 6th, we will go see the orthopedic doctor, Dr. Shea. We think the world of Dr. Shea. He operated on my hip many years ago but most importantly he put Logen's badly broken arm back together (with a rod and 8 screws) a few years ago.

Another broken bone to add to Logen's list.......

Roaring Springs

Colin was wearing a hat until it got wet and he did not like it on anymore! ;o)

Today the temperature reached the high 90's so we decided to head to the water park, Roaring Springs. We bought a season pass for the water park last winter (weird time that they sell them) and had not had a chance to go yet this season. When we got to the water park we had to have our pictures taken for our pass. Colin gave the cutest smile. Logen had a great picture too. Fair to say I do not usually like my pictures anyway, and I did not like this one either.

I was very happy to see that Colin loved the water. He likes being in the pool at my house but these pools are so much bigger and with water spraying everywhere. Colin even enjoyed the wave pool. He did not mind the waves splashing him in the face and even ventured out into the water (not alone) until it was up to his shoulders. The sound of the waves seemed to bother him quite a bit at first. His hands instantly went up to his ears but he did get used to it. Logen was a good sport and took Colin on the kiddie slides several times...Thanks Logen!

With only a half and hour left before the park closed Dennis and Logen decided to go on some of the bigger water slides while Colin and I hung out at the kiddie pool. The park put in a new water slide this year, Thunder Falls, and they were anxious to try it out. Since they had never been on it before they did not realize that at the bottom of the slide the raft stops abruptly. When it stopped hard it caused the raft to flip over and Dennis' foot jammed Logen right in the hand. Unfortunately it also jammed his pointer finger and it is pretty swollen. He went to the first aid station at the water park and they gave him ice to put on it but it looks like it has gotten worse, not better, since it happened a few hours ago. I am going to call the doctor first thing in the morning...I am sure he will need an x-ray. I don't think it is totally broken or obviously I would have in the emergency room tonight but he may have a sprain or a small fracture.

To be continued..................

Off to the park....

Colin, Logen and I spent a couple of hours at a great park within a short drive of our house on Monday afternoon. It was just warm enough for Colin to play in the water fountains that they have there. Logen taught Colin to put his foot over the spray to stop the water....oops he lifted his foot up and sprayed himself! :o)

Tumble Time

Colin has started a new physical therapy program. Instead of the therapist coming to our house we are taking Colin to a place called "Tumble Time". There is an awesome teacher by the name of Miss Etta and also a PT that helps and assists the children. There are about 8-10 kids in the class all under the age of three. Colin goes to class on Monday mornings for an hour. I am in the class with him and I help Colin when the therapist is helping other kids.

We have only started going to this class two weeks ago. The first week we went to class Colin did not like the balance beam at all. Our therapist had to hold him under his arms, he would not stand straight and I had to physically move his squatted legs along the balance beam. And this week this is what he looked like on the balance beam (remember this is only the 2nd time he has been to this class):

What a kid!

He still does not like doing any thing on the "bars" and did not like the somersault too much either, as you can tell by the expression on his face. :(

At the beginning of the class they have a short "circle time". Colin is still trying to learning to be patient through this time.

At the end of class the kids all lay on their tummy and do the "good-bye" song. After the "good-bye" song they get their hand and feet stamped and then it is time to go home. I am not sure if I have shared but being on his tummy is something that Colin does not like too much. His core muscles are weak so it is difficult for him. We try to do an activity on our tummy each day like read, color or play with cars, etc.

Colin is doing well with his therapies and he has also started to put two-one syllable words together to form a little sentence. He sure tries hard!

Bonnaroo through Tyler's lens........

The state of Tennessee must have the Bonnaroo Music Festival traffic down to a fine science. They have signs on the highway directing the 90,000 fans (new count) attending on where to drive to keep the traffic flowing. It still took Tyler four hours to drive the 75 miles to Manchester, Tennessee.
This tent is a mothers nightmare story. Apparently someone said they had a tent for Tyler to use, so he did not bring one. This is what was borrowed to him. I have to find some humor in this....somewhere. I think Tyler said it was from the Civil War days. :) As you can imagine he did not use this tent....he slept in the back of a Jeep instead...not much more comfortable but it kept him dry!

Can you believe the size of this crowd for one show?It rained a lot, as you can see from the MUD! I thought this was a funny picture because all the people were huddled onto the one dry dirt pile!
This is a very old Ferris Wheel. I could tell it was old just by looking at the pictures. Then Tyler told me it was from the Worlds Fair back in the day---I can't remember the year, but it is OLD. When I saw a picture of it, I wanted to warn Tyler to please not give his mother stress by going on it. Too late...he did!A great view from the Ferris Wheel.
This is Tyler (of course) and one of his friends that he was going to Bonnaroo with. Tyler met her in Florida and they have remained in contact and friends with each other.
The grand fountain at the center of Bannoroo.Tyler at the fountain....notice the stainless steel water bottle we bought him for the trip because its what Bonnaroo recommends. Funny story about the water bottle; Tyler was walking through the gates to go into the festival area and they have security people checking back packs, etc. They made Tyler dump out the water that he had filled in his water bottle. They make everyone carry it in empty and then fill it up at the water stations inside the festival. I thought that was strange but I guess it is just like going through an airport security checkpoint. The tired, weary feet after four days at the Bonnaroo Music Festival!

Sprinkler F-U-N

It finally stopped raining.....the patio furniture has been set up on the patio for a record amount of days...7 and counting....and there is no rain in the next seven days forecast--YEAH! :)

It was in the 90's yesterday so we lathered Colin up with sunblock, put the new Elmo swim suit on and turned on the sprinkler for some F-U-N!

As you can see, Colin really enjoyed himself.

Cousin Logen taught Colin how to drink out of the sprinkler!

Colin finished the afternoon with a Popsicle!

Thank God for the great summer days.......

I have hired a gardener

Don't be jealous but I must have the cutest gardener in the world!
Colin put Momma's gloves on and got busy making sure the geraniums were well taken care of....the watering can is close by so he can water the plants himself. He is such a big help and he seems to be very interested in taking care of the plants.
On a side note: check out that Colin is wearing "big boy" underwear! I will fill everyone in on the potty training experiences in another post soon.

The Day!

Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband.

Dennis, when I met you and got to know what an amazing person you are....I knew you would be an awesome father. Tyler and Logen are so fortunate and blessed that you are their dad.

I am honored that you are my husband! I love you, honey...I can't imagine my life without you in it!

Another Gig

Here is another Nothing with Numbers update: The guys in the band are playing a great show tonight at Eastside Joe's. As you can see Nothing with Numbers is opening for a few bands. Tyler has told me that these other bands have a great fan base, so the venue should be packed with people. This will be another opportunity for great exposure for the band.

Nothing with Numbers have a couple more gigs on the calendar. They have done a great job of marketing themselves and networking with other bands and local promoters. Great job guys.......

I am still very anxious to get down to Vegas and see them perform.

100th Post to the Blog

Wow....Can you believe that this is my 100th post to our family blog??

When I started this adventure called "blogging" in January I had high hopes that I would write, at the very least, weekly on the blog but I never imagined that I would write and enjoy it as much as I have. It is the middle of June and I have already surpassed my own expectations! This has been a great journal tool for me. I am looking forward to having my blog printed and bound into a book at the end of the year so we will have our year long memories to look back on.

I hope I continue to enjoy doing this and I hope my family continues to enjoy reading about our ordinary days and ordinary news!

This is a test....

Were the following pictures taken before or after our garage sale last weekend?

Unfortunately these were taken AFTER the sale. We did sell a lot of stuff at the sale, and I am very thankful! We were just overloaded with things that we held on to for way too long. So even though we did well at our sale and got rid of a lot of things, we still had plenty of leftovers. :) Mom said we had enough things left over that we could have another sale. No Way! We are done!

We will be making several donations with the leftovers. Most of the stuff will go to our local Goodwill. I am going to donate my books to the library and to the woman's section of the county jail. I have put a box of clothes together for Colin's little brother and the rest will be donated to the Department of Health and Welfare for the kids that come into foster care. I have seen, sadly enough, that a lot of the kids come to care with nothing. Sometimes with not even shoes on their feet. I know they are needed. Most of the clothes we have are in excellent condition. The kids seem to out grow them before they wear them out.

We found out on Friday that our neighbors were having a sale on Saturday also. They scheduled their sale to start at 7am. We were not going to start until 8am but they put the pressure on us to start as early as them since we did not want to miss any potential customers! There was one downfall to the neighbors having a sale also--I was spending too much time shopping at their sale! They have a little boy that is four, so I found quite a few things for Colin. I bought him some blocks and some "food" for his play kitchen. I also found quite a few clothes that he will be able to wear this fall. Our biggest score was this:

We have been looking for a jogging stroller for awhile. No, we are not joggers but we like to go for walks. It is too hard to have a good/fast walking pace while pulling a wagon or using a regular stroller. This "jogger" has the all-terrain wheels which will be awesome. It has been rainy the last few days so we haven't had a chance to use it too much but I am hoping to start walking in the mornings soon! Yahoo!

Music Extravaganza

Tyler made it home safely last night from his six day vacation at the four day music extravaganza called Bonnaroo.

Tyler kept me updated on everything (well, probably not EVERYTHING) while he was there. He called me everyday to let me know he was okay and having a great time. He had a lot of stories to share with me and I am sure there are plenty more to tell. I have asked Tyler to put together his thoughts and memories of his trip to post on my blog. So hopefully he will find time to do that for me. (*no pressure Tyler, I know that you are busy)

The drive over to Manchester from Chattanooga was a four-hour stop and go traffic jam. They expected it so it wasn't too bad. They got there early enough that his campsite was less than a 15 minute walk to the center of Bonnaroo and the bathrooms were only a five minute walk. This is an aerial view of the 700 acre venue:

Tyler saw some great bands and had a great time. He said if he would go again he would definitely rather that Heather went with him. He was one of the lucky ones that spun a wheel and won an opportunity to be put in a drawing to win free tickets to next years event. Good luck Tyler!

His flight was delayed about an hour last night, so I am sure he was very excited to see this city scape while landing at home last night.

Logen is 14 !!!!

I can hardly believe that Logen is 14 years old today and he will be in high school in the fall. Where is the time going???

In past years Logen has had fairly large birthday parties. His birthday is in the summer so it is the perfect excuse to have a big backyard party. We have rented inflatable water slides and had family BBQ's in the past. Last year we rented out Boise State University's football practice field for some fun; including a kids vs parents game! This year when we asked Logen what he would like to do, he decided that he really wanted an IPOD (the expensive one) and said he would rather us put any money that would have went to a party toward the IPOD. So low and behold....it was a quiet birthday.

Logen got to decide where we went to dinner for his birthday. He chose Westside Drive-In. Westside Drive-In is in Boise. We hadn't been there in years but Logen saw that Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives was filmed there while they were in Boise this spring. He thought it looked good and decided that's where he wanted to go.

So off we were to eat a casual dinner, outside on the patio of a downtown Boise drive-in. Logen decided that he wanted the burger that Guy Fieri (the host of Diners Drive-ins and Dives) made while at the restaurant this spring. It is called the "Daddy-O". (My vegetarian relatives may want to skip the next few pictures-HAHA)

This hamburger has two hamburg patties, ham, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, bacon, pickles and lots of condiments. I have to admit I was a little shocked that he wanted to tackle eating this beast of a sandwich.

Here goes........

And after........

For dessert we all shared this.......

You may say "A baked potato for DESSERT?!?!" This is not a baked potato. It is an ice cream made to look like a famous Idaho baked potato! Ice cream shaped liked a potato, rolled in cocoa (to look like potato skin), split open, added whipped cream to look like sour cream and nuts on the top (chives). It is served on a plate of chocolate syrup. YUMMY!

Even though we did not have a great big birthday party, Logen said he had a great time and a great birthday.

I love you, Logen.....I am very proud of who you are and what a great heart you have....I am so blessed to be your Mom!
