Bonna WHO you may ask?! BONNAROO !!!
Bonnaroo is a music festival located in Manchester, TN. Manchester is about 75 miles north of Chattanooga, TN. A little background information regarding the music festival: This music festival is an annual event that started in 2002. The festival is held at Great Stage Park on a 700 acre farm. This is a four day event that is set up so people CAN and DO camp there. Tyler was talking to someone that has attended this event in the past and they said it is an average walk from the camp site to the center of the festival of about 2.5 miles. If Tyler went back and forth an average of four times a day to eat, sleep, etc. This is 20 miles a day he would walk. After a four day event it would be a total of 80 miles WALKED! Thank goodness he bought new comfortable shoes! Tyler informed me the other day that he heard that the last count was 75,000 tickets sold for this event! Bonnaroo runs from June 11-14th. Tyler will be flying on June 10th to Chattanooga where his friends will meet him, and then they will go on to Manchester, TN on the morning of the 11th. Can you imagine the traffic?? Tyler will be flying back home, his home, to Las Vegas on the 15th.
Interestingly enough in recent years festival organizers have placed great emphasis on recycling and 'greening' efforts during the event. They really frown upon plastic water bottles and recommend the new stainless steel water bottles. We bought a stainless steel bottle for Tyler for his birthday to take on this trip with him...we wouldn't want him to be frowned at! :(
I guess I should explain who Tyler is going to this great party with. He is flying to Chattanooga alone and meeting up with a couple friends that he met while at college in Florida. I was happy to know that his buddy, Brian, is bringing his girlfriend. Tyler actually knew her before he knew Brian....so they are all good friends. I was very happy that there was going to be a girl in the group. Boys need the balance of a girl!
Now I know that everyone that is reading this and KNOWS me is wondering...how much is Tina going to worry about Tyler while he is gone?? Well if you KNOW me, then you know the answer is A LOT! I keep saying over and over..he is 24...he is 24....!! Tyler actually was a great son and went to great lengths to try to make me feel better and not worry about him. He emailed me a ton of information and different websites that I could look at and get educated on what this Bonnaroo is all about. It did make me feel a lot better...I know he will have a great time...but did he have to tell me that there will be 75,000 people there?!? ;o)
If anybody wants to educate themselves about this event the website is: www.bannaroo.com or if you have cable/satellite TV and get the FUSE station-they will be broadcasting live throughout the event. Of course I have NEVER watched this station before but you can guarantee it will be on for most of the four day event. I gave Tyler a hint that I would love to see his smiling/healthy face on TV.
I love you Tyler--take care of yourself and as I say to you always.....BE SAFE and continue to make GOOD CHOICES!

The modern day version of Woodstock. Sounds incredible and what a wonderful experience. Yes, I would be worried too. Jason would never tell us about these things until after they were over because he knew I would be worried the whole time. We have a similar event here in ME with all the stages and acts occurring simultaneously. It is called the American Fold Festival. It started in Bangor 4-5 years ago and was funded by the organization for 3 years. It is hoped that after that the communities where they have been will continue to fund the event. it has worked and it a wonderful event. Not sure about 75,000 people but lots and lots attend, it is all free--they hope for donations. Music groups from all over the world attend so you get to see bands, dances, music of all cultures. Lots of fun. Aunt Jo-Ann
