Where does your garden grow?

We finally got all our vegetables planted in the garden. I use the word "garden" but I have to say we do not have a typical garden and I am absolutely guaranteed that my "garden" would be an embarrassment alongside my Aunt Joann's garden! ;o)- Since we are limited on space because of our large patio, swing set, shed and trampoline we just incorporate our "garden space" amongst our larger flower bed.

Today we (I use the word "we" loosely, my wonderful husband, Dennis did most of the work) planted three tomato plants, a zucchini, a red pepper, a yellow pepper, two different types of yellow squash and a cucumber plant. We are trying an experiment with the cucumber plant because of the limited space. We have a trellis, which is next to a matching trellis that has a clematis growing on it, and we are going to see if we can guide the vine of the cucumber up the trellis. I am hoping it works and Dennis.....well he doesn't care if it works or not...he does not like cucumbers! :)

I still have a couple herbs that Mom and I are going to plant in a container in the next day or two. We will either leave them in the back yard or Mom will grow them up on her patio.

Well that is WHERE our garden grows.....amongst our Dogwood, Daylillies, Columbine and "snow in summer" plants! Hopefully in a month or so I will share pictures that show that the garden is thriving!

  1. Guess you don't know that is the latest trend, planting amoung the flower/shrub beds. So you are right in step with the rest of the country that wants to garden but doesn't have the space for it. Have you seen the tubs where you grow tomatoes upside down? Don't know if they work but they seem quite expense. Maybe not if they last a couple of seasons. Trellis for upgrowing crops works great as a space saver. You can grow beans that way too! Hope it is successful. My gardens are pitiful this year with all the rain and cold weather we've had. Plus I have just been too busy inside getting ready for a new kitchen. :-) Aunt J

  2. I am trendy?? WOW! That doesn't happen very often! :)

I have seen the upside down tomato tubs....ALL over town. My neighbor has two and a friend has eight! Sure wish I would have invented that!

I had forgotten about the beans--I was asking Dennis if we could still plant them.

New kitchen sounds like a good payoff for a pitiful garden---even though your pitiful and my pitiful are probably two different things! :)
